Our distributor for Estonia, Imbi Jaetma is passionate about preserving an ancient sheep breed of the area called Lahemea.

She and her husband Taavi had discovered that small numbers of the indigenous sheep had survived in the remote islands and border areas of Estonia. In their flock there are sheep from the islands of Kihnu, Ruhnu, Saaremaa, Hiiuma and from south and west Estonia
Lahemaa Sheep are small and tough, diligent grazers and brush browsers. Their multi-coloured coats consist of two layers, and outer coat of hair with a woollen undercoat.
To protect their prized sheep the Jaetmas use two security guards - Maremma sheep dogs! These solid, muscular dogs with a thick white coat, large head and a black nose are gentle with the lambs but fiercely protective of their flock.
