Now work in patt as graph, working rs (odd no.) rows from right to left, and ws (even no.)rows from left to right. The patt rep is 8 sts, so patt extra sts at end of rows as given from graph either side of patt rep.

1st row (rs): k1, patt 1(0:3:2:1:0) sts next to right hand side of graph, rep from * to * on graph until the last 2(1:4:3:2:1) sts, patt 1(0:3:2:1:0) sts next to left hand side of graph, k1.
Cont working from graph in this way, with each end st of every row k.
40 rows make up the complete patt.
Cont in patt until work meas 13.5(13.5:13.5:14:14:14.5) ins, (34(34:34:36:36:37)cms), and mark armhole positions.
Cont in patt for a further 9(9.5:9.5:9.5:10:10) ins, (23(24:24:24:25:25) cms.
Total length 22.5(23:23:23.5:24:24.5) ins, (57(58:58:60:61:62) cms), fin ws row.
Shape back neck: Bind off (cast off) 36(38:41:43:45:47) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Leave rem 36(38:38:40:42:44) sts on st holder or spare needle for back neck.

Front
As back until work meas 19.5(20:20:20:21:21) ins, (49(50:50:51:53:53)cms), fin ws row.

Working on these 44(46:49:51:53:56) sts, dec 1 st at neck edge on next 8(8:8:8:8:9) rows. Cont on rem 36(38:41:43:45:47) sts until armhole matches back. Bind off (cast off). Work left side to match, rev shapings.

Sleeves
With size 7 (4.5mm) needles, cast on 52(54:54:56:56:58) sts, and work 2 rows k1, p1, rib.
Beg patt as foll:
1st row (rs) k1, patt 1(2:2:3:3:0) as instructions for back, rep from * to *, to last 2(3:3:4:4:1) sts, patt 1(2:2:3:3:0), k1.
