There’s a certain magic to point threading — one simple sequence that can create stunning, symmetrical patterns. From bold diamonds to intricate designs, it’s like opening a treasure chest of possibilities, especially when you have sixteen shafts to play with!
Happy weaving!

A weaving draft where the threading rises to a peak and then reverses is called a point draft or point threading. If it is used to weave twills, you will often hear it called a point twill.
This single threading can create an amazing variety of patterns, especially on a sixteen-shaft loom. Below are a couple of fun designs that use a point threading to show just how versatile it can be.
Here at Ashford HQ, we often warp looms just for photography and marketing, not necessarily to make a finished project. When these photos appear in magazines or online, I often get requests for the drafts. These two designs have been asked for quite a bit, so I’m happy to finally share them here.
To make things easy, there are two printable PDF files:
one with the tie-up (for Jack looms)
and one with the lift plan (for table looms).
I hope you enjoy giving these drafts a try — and have fun exploring the endless possibilities of point threading!
