The Royal Weave

This week Princess Kate experienced the joy of hand weaving at Radical Weavers in Stirling, Scotland as part of a royal visit with Prince William to highlight Scottish heritage, community, and traditional crafts. Radical Weavers is a hand-weaving studio, Ashford dealer and independent charity that teaches traditional Scottish tartan-weaving skills and uses craft to help tackle social isolation and support people affected by trauma and loss. During the visit, the Princess was invited to try weaving on an Ashford 8 shaft loom and helped add the first piece to an ongoing communal attempt to create a record-breaking tartan scarf — an activity intended to raise funds for Scotland’s Tartan Centre in Stirling.
